⚠ The error

When trying to use the Pack and Go feature in SOLIDWORKS (File → Pack and Go), you see the error: "The SOLIDWORKS Document Manager library is invalid. Please see your administrator."

SOLIDWORKS Document Manager library is invalid error
1

Save and close SOLIDWORKS

Save any open work and exit SOLIDWORKS completely before proceeding.

2

Open Command Prompt as Administrator

Press Windows key, type cmd, then right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.

Run the following command:

regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Common Files\SolidWorks Shared\SwDocumentMgr.dll"
Command Prompt running the regsvr32 command for SwDocumentMgr.dll
3

Confirm the DLL registered successfully

You should see a RegSvr32 dialog confirming:

"DllRegisterServer in C:\Program Files\Common Files\SolidWorks Shared\SwDocumentMgr.dll succeeded."

RegSvr32 — DllRegisterServer succeeded confirmation>

Click OK.

4

Re-open SOLIDWORKS and test Pack and Go

Open SOLIDWORKS, go to File → Pack and Go, and verify the error no longer appears.

SOLIDWORKS File menu showing Pack and Go option>
✅

Pack and Go should now work correctly. The SwDocumentMgr.dll has been re-registered and SOLIDWORKS can access the Document Manager library.

Why does this error keep coming back?

This error tends to re-occur when multiple versions of SOLIDWORKS are installed on the same machine, or when another application that uses the Document Manager library overwrites or unregisters the DLL. If you find the issue keeps returning after updates or software installations, re-running the regsvr32 command above will resolve it each time.

Note: If the command fails with an access denied error, make sure you opened Command Prompt with Run as administrator. A standard user session will not have permission to register a DLL in Program Files.
