Download the Teams MSIX package

Download the new Teams MSIX installer from Microsoft's official bulk install page:

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/new-teams-bulk-install-client

You want the file MSTeams-x64.msix. Direct download link:

https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2196106

Place the downloaded file in a folder on your server. In this example we use C:\IT.

Run the DISM deploy command

Open PowerShell as Administrator and run the following command, updating the path and filename to match your setup:

Dism /Online /Add-ProvisionedAppxPackage /PackagePath:c:\it\MSTeams-x64.msix /SkipLicense
Note: Update c:\it\MSTeams-x64.msix to match wherever you saved the file and whatever the filename is.
⚠ Common error

If you see the error "To install this application you need either a Windows developer license or a sideloading-enabled system." — follow Step 3 below to enable sideloading, then re-run the command.

Enable sideloading (if required)

If you hit the sideloading error above, run this registry command in the same elevated PowerShell window to enable sideloading on the server:

reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\AppModelUnlock" /t REG_DWORD /f /v "AllowAllTrustedApps" /d "1"

Once that completes, re-run the deploy command from Step 2:

Dism /Online /Add-ProvisionedAppxPackage /PackagePath:c:\it\MSTeams-x64.msix /SkipLicense

New Teams is now deployed and available to all RDS users. Users will be able to switch from Classic Teams to the New Teams client from within the Teams application.
