Outlook says Cannot display folder

If you receive the “Cannot display the folder.  Microsoft Outlook cannot access the specified folder location” error, you typically need to rename or delete your .ost file.  

Option 1 – Delete ost file

If you receive the “Cannot display the folder.  Microsoft Outlook cannot access the specified folder location” error, you typically need to rename or delete your .ost file.  

  1. In Outlook, click File > Account Settings > Data Files to find the location of your OST file. Then close Outlook.
  2. Go to the path of OST file, delete or rename the OST file.
  3. Restart your Outlook client, a new OST file will be created.

Typically this file is in C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

Find your .ost and rename to .bak or .old

Option 2 – New profile

If the issue persists, please try creating and using a new Outlook profile via Control Panel > Mail > Show profile
